    What is it all about?

You might have interest in this book because you or someone you know has:

    1. Woken up from bed (sitting up or rolling over) with the world spinning around.
    2. All of a sudden, I felt the sensation of walking on a boat.
    3. Felt like turning your head left or right feels like you might tip over or gives you sudden “spins.”
    4. Been battling some form of vertigo or dizziness, have not gotten back to normal, and looking for help.

Many doctors, therapists, and online resources offer definitions of vertigo. After over a decade of first-hand experience as a patient, I think most of those definitions have been written by non-patients. They mean well, but dizziness and vertigo are quite the challenge to put in a box, and until you live it, you may never fully understand. In real life, vertigo and dizziness are both very tricky sensations, mainly because they are not visible to anyone. It is only happening to you.

Before I get into the meat of this guide, I want to mention that nearly all these tests and concepts are essentially testing the peripheral vestibular system. Every one of these is looking to figure out where within the vestibular system some form of disconnect or disruption is occurring. That's it. That's the whole thing. If you have dizziness or vertigo, you already know something is off. The question now is where the problem is and how we can fix it.
